F-35 PILOT TRAINING TO RECEIVE FLEET-WIDE TECH REFRESH
FORT WORTH, TEXAS- Wraith Systems has been awarded a $6.1M Technology Refresh contract from Lockheed Martin Rotary & Mission Systems. Wraith has been the sole source provider for all F-35 desktop Pilot Training Aid (PTA) HOTAS (Hands-on Throttle and Stick) for the last 16 years. With over 1,700 units in circulation and 800+ in domestic and international F-35 schoolhouses worldwide, we are pleased to accept this “fleet-wide” technology refresh and replacement of our flagship product. Contract replacement production will begin in Q1 of 2024, and extend through December 2024, delivering over 800 sets. The original product design was launched in 2006 and remained in active production until 2023. The HOTAS received a Tech Refresh in Q1 of 2023, including major design changes and hardware, software, and firmware upgrades.
The F-35 is a 5th-generation fighter, combining aircraft characteristics of advanced stealth, integrated avionics, sensor fusion, and superior logistics support with the most powerful and comprehensive integrated sensor package of any fighter aircraft in history. The demand on pilots during training to master the 22 buttons, switches, and modes on the stick & throttle alone would be more difficult, expensive, and time-consuming if not for the use of flight-representative desktop HOTAS. Every student pilot is issued a set of HOTAS during initial training to accelerate familiarization, use, and mastery of the skills needed to employ this weapons platform.
